1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface and turn off the engine.
2. Allow the engine to cool down.
3. Locate the oil filter. On the 1986 Honda Accord, the oil filter is located on the passenger side of the engine. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with a black cap.
4. Place an oil drain pan under the oil filter.
5. Use an oil filter wrench to loosen the oil filter. Be careful not to spill any oil.
6. Remove the oil filter and discard it properly.
7. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
8. Screw on the new oil filter by hand until it is snug.
9. Tighten the oil filter with an oil filter wrench. Do not overtighten the oil filter.
10. Add new oil to the engine.
11. Check the oil level and add more oil if necessary.
12. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
13. Check for any leaks.
