Safety Precautions:
Before starting, ensure the vehicle is parked on level ground, the engine is off, and the parking brake is engaged.
Materials and Tools Needed:
New transmission fluid (refer to your owner's manual for the recommended type and quantity)
Drain pan
Funnel
Wrench (or socket wrench with appropriate size socket)
Instructions:
1. Locate the drain plug: The drain plug is usually located on the bottom of the transmission pan. It is typically a 17mm bolt.
2. Place the drain pan: Position the drain pan directly beneath the drain plug to catch the old transmission fluid.
3. Loosen the drain plug: Use the wrench to loosen and remove the drain plug. Be careful as the transmission fluid may be hot.
4. Allow the fluid to drain: Let all the old transmission fluid drain into the drain pan. This may take several minutes.
5. Replace the drain plug: Once all the fluid has drained, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.
6. Locate the fill plug: The fill plug is usually located on the top of the transmission pan. It is typically a 17mm bolt.
7. Add new transmission fluid: Using the funnel, pour the recommended amount of new transmission fluid into the fill plug hole.
8. Check the transmission fluid level: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, use the transmission dipstick to check the transmission fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
9. Test drive: Take your vehicle for a short test drive and then recheck the transmission fluid level to ensure it is still at the proper level.
