How do you change the gas filter on a Nissan 2004 Xterra?

Tools and materials:

- Gas filter wrench

- New gas filter

- Flat-head screwdriver

- Safety goggles

- Jack

- Jack stands

Instructions:

1. Park your vehicle on a level surface. Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down. Set the parking brake.

2. Locate the gas filter. The fuel filter is usually located underneath the vehicle, near the fuel tank. It is a cylindrical-shaped object with two fuel lines connected to it.

3. Determine if the fuel filter is in-line or under-body. If the fuel filter is in-line, proceed to step 4. If the fuel filter is under-body, proceed to step 5.

4. In-line fuel filter:

- Disconnect the fuel lines. There will be two fuel lines connected to the fuel filter, one on each side. Disconnect the fuel lines using the fuel line disconnect tool or a flat-head screwdriver.

- Remove the fuel filter. Once the fuel lines are disconnected, you can remove the fuel filter by unscrewing it.

5. Under-body fuel filter:

- Raise the vehicle. You will need to raise the vehicle in order to access the fuel filter. Place the jack under the frame of the vehicle and raise it until you have enough room to work.

- Locate the fuel filter. The fuel filter is usually located near the fuel tank. Look for a cylindrical-shaped object with two fuel lines connected to it.

- Disconnect the fuel lines. There will be two fuel lines connected to the fuel filter, one on each side. Disconnect the fuel lines using the fuel line disconnect tool or a flat-head screwdriver.

- Remove the fuel filter. Once the fuel lines are disconnected, you can remove the fuel filter by unscrewing it.

6. Install the new fuel filter.

7. Reconnect the fuel lines.

8. Lower the vehicle.

9. Start the engine. Check for any leaks.
