When were disc brakes first used?
The history of disc brakes can be traced back to 1898 when British inventor Frederick William Lanchester patented a brake design, but the first recorded automotive application of disc brakes is credited to the American inventor, Elmer Ambrose Sperry, known for gyroscopic stabilization systems. In June 1918, Sperry first attached a disc brake system to a four-wheel automobile, but the system was far from refined.
