How do you replace the clutch cable on a 1992 subaru legacy station wagon?

Tools and Materials Needed:

1. New Clutch Cable

2. 10mm Socket

3. 12mm Socket

4. Phillips Head Screwdriver

5. Flat Head Screwdriver

6. Pliers

7. Grease

Instructions:

1. Park your car on a level surface, apply the parking brake and place a chock behind one of the wheels.

2. Open the hood of the vehicle and locate the clutch cable. It is located on the driver side near the top of the engine.

3. Follow the clutch cable to where it connects to the transmission.

There will be a bracket holding the cable in place. Use a 12 mm socket to loosen the bolts holding the bracket.

4. Once the bracket is loose, you can disconnect the clutch cable from the transmission. There will be a small pin holding the cable in place. Slide the pin out and lift the cable off of the transmission arm.

5. Remove the protective cover from the other end of the clutch cable. There will be a small cotter pin holding the cable in place. Remove the cotter pin and pull the cable out of the bracket.

6. Now you can start installing the new clutch cable. Begin by inserting the cable through the bracket near the transmission. Secure it with the cotter pin.

7. Next, connect the cable to the transmission arm. Insert the pin and secure it with the small bracket and bolts that you removed earlier.

8. Finally, connect the clutch cable to the clutch pedal. There is a small pin holding the cable in place. Slide the pin out and lift the cable off of the pedal arm.

9. Place the new clutch cable on the pedal arm and reinsert the pin.

10. Apply some grease to the clutch cable pivot points to ensure smooth operation.

11. Once you have installed the clutch cable, you will need to adjust it. Loosen the jam nuts on the clutch cable, and turn the adjuster until the clutch pedal has about 1 inch of free play.

12. Tighten the jam nuts, start your vehicle, and test the clutch. It should engage smoothly.
