1. Check the parking brake:Make sure the parking brake is fully disengaged. Sometimes a stuck parking brake can prevent the car from shifting out of park.
2. Try wiggling the shifter: Sometimes a stuck shifter can be loosened by gently wiggling it back and forth.
3. Press the brake pedal: In most cars, you need to press the brake pedal in order to shift out of park. Make sure the brake pedal is depressed all the way.
4. Check the shift lock override: Some vehicles have a shift lock override that can be used to release the shifter from the park position. Consult your owner's manual to see if your car has a shift lock override and how to use it.
5. Check the transmission fluid: Low transmission fluid can cause shifting problems. Check the transmission fluid level and add more fluid if necessary.
6. If all else fails, call for a tow. If you are unable to get your car out of park, you may need to call for a tow.
