Do outboard engines charge a battery?

Most outboard engines have an alternator or a stator that generates electricity to charge the battery. The alternator or stator is driven by the engine's crankshaft. As the engine runs, the alternator or stator generates alternating current (AC) electricity. This AC current is then converted to direct current (DC) by a rectifier and used to charge the battery.
