Instructions
1. Park your truck on a level surface and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool down completely.
2. Engage the parking brake and chock the wheels to prevent the truck from rolling.
3. Locate the speed sensor. On the 1999 Dodge Ram truck, the speed sensor is located on the passenger side of the transmission, near the front. It is a small, cylindrical sensor with a wire connector attached to it.
4. Disconnect the electrical connector from the speed sensor.
5. Use a wrench to loosen the mounting bolts that hold the speed sensor in place.
6. Remove the speed sensor from the transmission.
7. Clean the mating surfaces of the speed sensor and the transmission with a wire brush.
8. Install a new speed sensor, reversing the steps above.
9. Test the speed sensor by driving the truck and observing the speedometer. The speedometer should now be working properly.
Tips
* If you have difficulty accessing the speed sensor, you may need to remove the front driveshaft.
* When reinstalling the speed sensor, be sure to tighten the mounting bolts securely.
* If you have any questions about this procedure, consult a qualified mechanic.
