- New 12-volt battery (group size 65)
- Socket wrench set
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Safety goggles
Instructions:
1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Ensure the parking brake is engaged.
2. Locate the battery. The battery in your 2003 PT Cruiser non-turbo is located under the hood in the passenger side corner. It is covered with a plastic cover that can be removed by unscrewing the two Phillips-head screws.
3. Put on your safety goggles.
4. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Start by loosening the negative battery cable clamp using a socket wrench. Once the clamp is loosened, pry it up off of the battery terminal.
5. Disconnect the positive battery cable. Repeat step 4 for the positive battery cable.
6. Remove the battery hold-down bracket. The battery hold-down bracket is located at the bottom of the battery. It is secured with two bolts that can be removed using a socket wrench.
7. Lift the battery out of the car. Be careful not to drop the battery.
8. Clean the battery terminals and cables. You can clean them using a wire brush or a baking soda and water solution.
9. Install the new battery. Place the new battery in the car and secure it with the battery hold-down bracket.
10. Reconnect the positive battery cable. Tighten the positive battery cable clamp using a socket wrench.
11. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Tighten the negative battery cable clamp using a socket wrench.
12. Replace the battery cover.
13. Start your car and verify that everything is working properly.
Tips:
- When you're choosing a new battery, be sure to select the correct group size for your car. The group size is printed on the top of your old battery.
- If you have any doubts about replacing your car battery, you can always take your car to a mechanic.
