1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the battery. The battery is usually located in the engine compartment, near the front of the car. It is a black or gray box with two terminals, one positive and one negative.
4. Remove the negative terminal cable. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the negative terminal cable to the battery. Be careful not to touch the positive terminal cable with the wrench.
5. Remove the positive terminal cable. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the positive terminal cable to the battery. Be careful not to touch the negative terminal cable with the wrench.
6. Remove the battery hold-down clamp. Use a wrench to loosen the nut that holds the battery hold-down clamp in place.
7. Lift the battery out of the car. Be careful not to drop the battery.
8. Place the new battery in the car. Make sure that the positive terminal of the battery is facing the positive terminal on the car.
9. Replace the battery hold-down clamp. Tighten the nut that holds the battery hold-down clamp in place.
10. Reconnect the positive terminal cable. Tighten the nut that holds the positive terminal cable to the battery.
11. Reconnect the negative terminal cable. Tighten the nut that holds the negative terminal cable to the battery.
12. Close the hood of your car.
Tips
* When replacing your car battery, choose a battery that is the same size and shape as the old battery.
* If you are not comfortable changing your car battery yourself, you can take it to a mechanic or auto repair shop.
