- New Spark Plugs
- Ratchet
- Socket wrench / Spark plug socket
- Spark plug wire removal tool
- Dielectric grease
- Extensions (optional)
Instructions:
1. Preparation
- Allow the engine to cool down. Working on a hot engine can be dangerous.
- Disconnect the car's battery to avoid electrical shock during the process.
2. Locate Spark Plugs
- Refer to the vehicle's repair manual to identify the location of the spark plugs on your specific Concord model.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
- Some Concord models have ignition coils covering individual spark plugs. If present, use a spark plug wire removal tool to detach the coils from the plugs.
- Be careful not to damage the coils or spark plug wells while removing the coils.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
- Use a ratchet with an appropriate spark plug socket to loosen and remove the old spark plugs. Be gentle and avoid applying excessive force.
5. Check Electrode
- Inspect the old spark plugs for signs of wear, deposits, or damage. The electrode should be sharp and free from corrosion.
6. Gap New Spark Plugs
- Check the gap between the electrode and the side electrode on the new spark plugs. Adjust it to the manufacturer's specifications (typically 0.045 inches) if necessary.
7. Install New Spark Plugs
- Apply a small amount of dielectric grease around the new spark plug's threads. This helps prevent corrosion and ensures a good connection.
- Carefully screw in the new spark plugs by hand until they are finger-tight.
- Use the ratchet and spark plug socket to tighten the spark plugs, but don't over-tighten them.
8. Reattach Coils or Wires
- Reinstall the ignition coils or wires if they were removed. Ensure a secure connection.
9. Reconnect Battery
- Reconnect the car's battery if you disconnected it at the beginning.
10. Test-Drive
- Start the engine and test-drive the Concord to check if the spark plug replacement has resolved any issues.
