How do you remove a power steering pump from 1995 Chevy cavalier?

1995 Chevy Cavalier Power Steering Pump Replacement.

Tools Needed

- 3/8 drive ratchet

- Socket set

- pry bar

- power steering fluid

- fluid recovery container

Instructions

1. Begin by disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery. This will help to prevent any electrical shocks while you are working.

2. Open the hood and remove the four bolts holding the air intake tube to the throttle body. Disconnect the air intake tube from the throttle body and set the tube aside.

3. Remove the four bolts holding the reservoir cap to the reservoir and remove the cap and set aside.

4. Disconnect the power steering pressure line from the pump. Use a pry bar to pry off the line from the pump and catch the fluid that will drain out with the recovery container.

5. Disconnect the power steering return line from the pump in the same manner.

6. If your vehicle has a hydraulic fan system you will also need to remove the fan drive belt by loosening the belt tensioner pulley and remove the fan drive belt from the pump pulley.

7. Remove the three bolts holding the pump to the engine and remove the pump. Be sure to catch any remaining fluid that may drain out with the recovery container.

8. Install the new pump in the reverse order that you removed the old pump. Be sure to fill the reservoir with power steering fluid and bleed the system.

Bleeding the Power Steering System

With the engine running, slowly turn the steering wheel from left to right, allowing the fluid to circulate through the system. Continue turning the steering wheel until all the air is out of the system. Add power steering fluid to keep the reservoir at the right level.

That should it. You should now have successfully replaced the power steering pump in your 1995 Chevy Cavalier.
