Park the working vehicle (the one with the charged battery) close to but not touching the Pontiac G5 or Pursuit. Do not connect the cables yet.
1. Turn off the engines of both vehicles and apply the parking brakes.
2.Locate the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of the discharged battery in your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit. Refer to your vehicle's owner's manual if needed.
3. Open the hood of the working vehicle and identify the positive (+) and negative (-) terminals of its battery.
4. Connect one end of one jumper cable to the positive (+) terminal of the working battery and the other end to the positive (+) terminal of the discharged battery in your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit.
5. Connect one end of the other jumper cable to the negative (-) terminal of the working battery and the other end to an unpainted, metallic surface on the engine of your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit. Do not connect it directly to the negative (-) terminal of the discharged battery.
6. Start the engine of the working vehicle and let it run for a few minutes, allowing its alternator to charge the discharged battery in your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit.
7. Once the discharged battery has received some charge, try starting your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit. If it does not start, let the vehicles continue running for a few more minutes and try again.
8. Once your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit has started, leave it running and disconnect the jumper cables in the reverse order you connected them. Make sure not to touch the ends of the cables together to avoid sparks.
9. Let your Pontiac G5 or Pursuit continue to run for a while to allow its alternator to fully recharge the battery.
Be sure to carefully read and follow the safety instructions for jumper cables and battery charging before attempting to boost your vehicle. If you are uncertain about the process or encounter any difficulties, consider seeking assistance from a professional or consulting your vehicle's owner's manual for specific instructions.
