1. Park the vehicle in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.
2. Open the hood of the vehicle.
3. Locate the serpentine belt. It is the long, black belt that runs around the front of the engine, connecting several pulleys.
4. Find the belt tensioner. It is a small, metal device with a spring-loaded arm. The tensioner is usually located near the alternator or power steering pump.
5. Insert a wrench or breaker bar into the square hole on the tensioner.
6. Turn the wrench or breaker bar counterclockwise to release the tension on the serpentine belt. The tensioner arm will move away from the belt.
7. Once the tension is released, remove the serpentine belt from the pulleys.
8. To reinstall the serpentine belt, simply place it around the pulleys and then tighten the tensioner.
