- Check the fuel pressure. The fuel pressure should be within the range specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. If the fuel pressure is too low, the engine will not get enough fuel to run.
- Check the injector pulse width. The injector pulse width is the amount of time that the fuel injectors are open, this should be within the range specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. If the injector pulse width is too short, the injectors will not open long enough to deliver enough fuel to the engine. Conversely, if the injector pulse width is too long, the injectors will stay open too long and flood the engine.
- Check the compression. The compression should be within the range specified in your vehicle's owner's manual. If the compression is too low, the engine will not have enough power to start.
- Check the timing belt or chain. If the timing belt or chain is worn or slipped, the engine will not be able to run properly.
- Check the ignition timing. The timing of the spark plug firing should be within the range specified in your vehicle's owner's manual If the ignition timing is off, the engine will not be able to start or will run poorly.
