The sway bar has no effect on the operation of the brakes. Rather, it helps stiffen the suspension under cornering loads to reduce body lean and improve handling. However, if the sway bar is damaged, you may notice a clunking or knocking noise when you hit bumps in the road.
Other components to check include the brake pads and rotors, the control arm bushings, tie rod ends, and stabilizer bar links.
