How do you change a fuel pump on 2000 Buick Regal GS that has supercharger?

Tools and Materials Needed

* Replacement fuel pump

* Fuel line pliers

* Pry bar

* Phillips-head screwdriver

* Flat-head screwdriver

* Ratchet and socket set

* Safety glasses

* Gloves

* Replacement fuel filter (optional)

Instructions

1. Park the car in a safe location, and turn off the engine. Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning work.

2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. This can be done by removing the fuel pump fuse from the fuse box, and then starting the engine. Let the engine run until it stalls out.

3. Disconnect the negative battery cable. This will help prevent electrical shock while you are working on the fuel pump.

4. Locate the fuel pump. The fuel pump is located under the vehicle, near the fuel tank. It is usually covered by a metal shield.

5. Remove the metal shield. Use a pry bar to pry the shield off of the fuel pump. Be careful not to damage the fuel lines or other components.

6. Disconnect the fuel lines. Use a wrench to loosen the fuel line fittings, and then pull the fuel lines off of the fuel pump. Be careful not to spill any fuel.

7. Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts. Use a ratchet and socket to remove the bolts that hold the fuel pump in place.

8. Pry the fuel pump out of the tank. Use a pry bar to pry the fuel pump out of the fuel tank. Be careful not to damage the fuel tank.

9. Install the replacement fuel pump. Insert the new fuel pump into the fuel tank, and then secure it in place with the mounting bolts.

10. Reconnect the fuel lines. Attach the fuel lines to the fuel pump, and then tighten the fuel line fittings.

11. Reattach the metal shield. Use the pry bar to reattach the metal shield to the fuel pump.

12. Reconnect the battery cable.

13. Start the engine. Allow the engine to run for a few minutes, and then check for leaks.

Additional Tips

* It is a good idea to replace the fuel filter at the same time that you replace the fuel pump.

* If you have difficulty disconnecting the fuel lines, you can also use a fuel line release tool.

* Be sure to dispose of the old fuel pump properly. Most auto parts stores will accept old fuel pumps for recycling.
