- Drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
Here are the steps to change the transmission fluid on a 1998 Toyota Camry:
1. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
Engage the parking brake.
2. Crawl under the car and locate the transmission drain plug.
It is located on the bottom of the transmission pan, near the front of the car.
3. Place the drain pan under the drain plug and loosen the plug.
Be careful not to drop the bolt into the drain pan.
4. Allow the transmission fluid to drain completely.
This may take a few minutes.
5. Once the fluid has drained completely, replace the drain plug and tighten it securely.
6. Locate the transmission fluid fill plug.
It is located on the top of the transmission, near the back of the car.
7. Remove the fill plug and insert the funnel into the fill hole.
8. Add new transmission fluid to the transmission until the fluid level reaches the "Full" mark on the dipstick.
9. Check the transmission fluid level with the dipstick again and make sure it is still at the "Full" mark.
10. Replace the fill plug and tighten it securely.
11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to circulate the new transmission fluid.
12. Shift through the gears and make sure the transmission is shifting smoothly.
Note: If you have trouble shifting gears or if the transmission is making strange noises, you should have it checked by a qualified mechanic.
