How do you change the spark plugs on a 98 Kia Sephia?

Tools Needed

* Spark plug socket (5/8 inch)

* A ratchet

* An extension for your ratchet

* A torque wrench

* A new set of spark plugs (NGK BKR5E-11 are recommended)

Procedure

1. Remove the three engine cover bolts.

2. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs. Do this by grasping the boot of the wire and giving it a firm, straight tug.

3. Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen the old spark plugs. Be sure to not drop them into the engine!

4. Screw in the new spark plugs by hand until they are snug.

5. Use the torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to 18-22 lb-ft.

6. Reconnect the spark plug wires.

7. Replace the engine cover and bolts.

Tips

* Be sure to gap the new spark plugs correctly before installing them. The gap should be .044 inches.

* If you are having trouble removing the spark plugs, you can try using a penetrating oil.

* Be sure to clean the spark plug wires and the spark plugs before reinstalling them.
