Parts Required:
- Clutch kit (includes clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing)
- Flywheel resurfaced or replaced (if necessary)
Instructions:
1. Disconnect Battery Cable
Disconnect negative terminal of battery. It is located at the left inner fender behind a rubber cover.
2. Raise Vehicle and Support On Jack Stands
3. Remove Transmission
4. Separate Transmission From Engine
Separate transmission from engine by pulling straight back. If it sticks remove the two 12 mm bolts that secure the transmission to the engine.
5. Support Transmission
Support the transmission with a floor jack and piece of wood.
6.Remove Pressure Plate Bolts
Remove 6 bolts from around the pressure plate using 14mm socket.
7. Use Clutch Alignment Tool
Install clutch alignment tool in clutch disc splines. If you do not have one, insert the transmission input shaft into the clutch disc and use that to align the clutch disc.
8. Remove Pressure Plate
While holding the alignment tool in place remove pressure plate from flywheel using 17mm socket. Remove and discard alignment tool.
9. Inspect Flywheel
Inspect the flywheel for cracks, heat spots or other damage. Resurface or replace flywheel as needed.
10. Lubricate Clutch Input Shaft
Apply a thin coat of grease to the splines of the transmission input shaft.
11. Install Clutch Disc and Pressure Plate
Install the clutch disc onto the flywheel, making sure that the splines on the disc engage properly with the splines on the flywheel.
Place the pressure plate onto the clutch disc. Insert transmission alignment tool.
Insert the 12 mm bolts through the pressure plate and into the flywheel. Do not tighten the bolts.
12. Install Starter Bolts and Remove Alignment Tool
Install the starter motor bolts back on the bellhousing.
Now that you have the transmission bolted loosely in place you can remove the alignment tool.
13. Tighten Bellhousing Bolts
With transmission now bolted into place, install and tighten bolts removed in Step 3 to secure transmission to engine block.
14. Reinstall Transmission
Reinstall the transmission into the engine. Use the jack to raise the transmission in place and insert guide pin. Push transmission home and bolt into place.
15. Reattach Shifter Linkage and Starter Motor
Reattach the shifter linkage to the transmission. Reconnect the starter motor.
16. Lower Car
Lower the vehicle and remove jack stands.
17. Reconnect Battery Cable
Reinstall negative battery cable (if disconnected).
18. Test Clutch System
Start the engine and test the clutch system by shifting gears. The clutch should engage smoothly and without slipping.
