1. Turn off the ignition and all electrical accessories in your car. This includes lights, radio, air conditioner, and anything else that might be drawing power.
2. Open the hood of your car and locate the battery. It's usually in the front of the engine compartment, near the top.
3. Take the light tester and connect one end to the negative terminal of the battery. This is usually marked with a "-" symbol.
4. Touch the other end of the light tester to the positive terminal of the battery. This is usually marked with a "+" symbol.
5. Observe the light tester. If it lights up, it means that there is draw current coming from the battery. If it doesn't light up, then there is no draw current.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when using a light tester:
- Make sure you have a good quality light tester. Cheap ones may not be sensitive enough to pick up small amounts of draw current.
- If you see that the light tester does not light up, it does not necessarily mean that there is no current draw. There may just be a small amount of current, below the level the light tester can detect.
- If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, you can take your car to a mechanic to have it checked for a current draw.
