Tools and materials needed:
- Spark plugs (6)
- Spark plug wrench
- Ratchet
- Socket set
- Extension
- Gap gauge
- Dielectric grease
Procedure:
1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Allow it to cool down completely.
2. Open the hood of your car.
3. Locate the spark plug wires. They are connected to the spark plugs and are usually black or gray.
4. Remove the spark plug wires by carefully pulling them off of the spark plugs. Be careful not to damage the wires.
5. Use the spark plug wrench to loosen the spark plugs. Turn the wrench counterclockwise until the spark plug is loose.
6. Remove the old spark plugs from the engine.
7. Check the condition of the old spark plugs. The electrodes should be clean and free of wear. If the electrodes are worn, replace the spark plugs.
8. Check the electrode gap of the new spark plugs. The electrode gap should be within the specifications listed in your vehicle's owner's manual. If necessary, adjust the electrode gap using a gap gauge.
9. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs. This will help to prevent the spark plugs from seizing in the engine.
10. Screw the new spark plugs into the engine. Tighten the spark plugs until they are snug. Do not over-tighten the spark plugs.
11. Reattach the spark plug wires by pushing them onto the spark plugs. Make sure that the wires are securely attached.
12. Close the hood of your car and start the engine. Check for any leaks or unusual noises.
