Tools and Materials Needed:
- New Fog Lights
- Phillips Head Screwdriver
- Flat Head Screwdriver
- Wire Cutters
- Electrical Tape
- Pliers
- Drill with 3/4" Bit
Instructions:
1. Locate Fog Light Bezels:
- Open the hood of your Chevy and locate the fog light bezels. They're usually found in the front bumper near the headlights.
2. Pre-Fit Fog Lights:
- Hold one of the new fog lights in place where the bezel goes to get an idea of where the mounting points will be.
3. Disconnect Battery (Optional):
- As a safety measure, you may want to disconnect the negative terminal of your battery to avoid any electrical issues.
4. Remove Bumpers:
- Remove the front bumper cover by unbolting the screws from the top, bottom, and sides. You might also find plastic clips that need to be pried off using a flat head screwdriver.
5. Mark and Drill Mounting Points:
- Position the fog lights in their place against the back of the bumper cover and mark where the mounting points will be. Drill 3/4" holes at the marked points.
6. Install Fog Light Brackets:
- Insert the fog light brackets through the holes and secure them with the provided nuts from the back.
7. Connect Wiring:
- Connect the fog light wiring harness to the fog lights. Typically, there's a ground wire, a positive power wire, and a power wire for the switch. Consult the instructions provided with the fog light kit for specific wiring.
8. Ground Fog Lights:
- Connect the ground wire to a clean, unpainted metal surface on your Chevy's frame. Ensure the connection is firm.
9. Run Power Wires:
- Route the positive power and switch power wires through the holes you drilled earlier in the bumper cover. Lead the wires towards the cabin through a firewall hole or grommet.
10. Install a Relay (if not included):
- If your kit doesn't include a relay, you'll need to install one. Connect the relay per the kit's instructions.
11. Connect to Cabin Switch:
- Run the switch power wire to the desired switch location in the cabin. Follow the instructions that came with your fog lights to set up the switch.
12. Seal Holes:
- Use silicone sealant or another appropriate material to seal the firewall hole to make sure water doesn't seep through.
13. Test Fog Lights:
- Reconnect the battery (if you disconnected it earlier) and test the fog lights to make sure they work.
14. Replace Bumpers:
- Reattach the front bumper cover by rebolting and clipping it into place.
Your 1995 Chevy should now have functional fog lights installed! Remember, the exact process may vary slightly based on your specific vehicle and kit, but these steps should provide a general guideline for installing fog lights.
