1. Park your car in a safe location and turn off the engine. Make sure the car is in Park (for automatic transmissions) or Neutral (for manual transmissions) and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Open the hood of your car. The hood release lever is usually located inside the car, near the driver's seat.
3. Locate the battery. The battery is usually located in the engine compartment, near the front of the car. It is a black or gray box with two terminals, one positive (+) and one negative (-).
4. Disconnect the negative (-) terminal. Use a wrench to loosen the nut or bolt that holds the negative terminal cable to the battery. Be careful not to touch the positive terminal or any other metal parts while disconnecting the negative terminal, as this could cause a short circuit.
5. Wait a few minutes. This will give the car's computer time to reset.
6. Reconnect the negative (-) terminal. Tighten the nut or bolt that holds the negative terminal cable to the battery.
7. Close the hood of your car.
8. Start your car. The car's computer should have been reset and all of the settings should be back to their default values.
If the above method doesn't work or you have a newer model car, there may be a different way to disconnect the battery to reset the computer. You can check your car's owner's manual for more information.
