Tools and Materials Needed
- New shocks
- Socket wrench
- Adjustable wrench
- Penetrating oil
- Jack and jack stands
- Safety glasses
Instructions
1. Park your truck on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Jack up the truck and place the jack stands underneath the frame.
3. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels that you will be removing.
4. Remove the lug nuts and take off the wheels.
5. Locate the shock absorbers on the front and rear of your truck.
6. Spray penetrating oil on the bolts that hold the shocks in place.
7. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the top of the shock in place.
8. Use a wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the bottom of the shock in place.
9. Remove the old shocks from the truck.
10. Install the new shocks into the truck.
11. Tighten the bolts that hold the top of the shocks in place.
12. Tighten the bolts that hold the bottom of the shocks in place.
13. Reinstall the wheels and lug nuts.
14. Lower the truck from the jack stands.
15. Test the new shocks by driving your truck over some bumps.
Tips
- Make sure that you get the correct shocks for your truck.
-If the bolts are rusted or corroded, use a penetrating oil to loosen them.
-Be careful not to drop the shocks when you are removing or installing them.
-You may need to have a friend help you with this project.
