1. Gather the necessary tools and parts.
- Replacement clutch cable
- 10mm wrench
- 13mm wrench
- Flat-head screwdriver
- Pliers
2. Park your car on a level surface and turn off the engine.
3. Remove the negative terminal from the battery.
4. Locate the clutch release arm on the transmission.
- It is a metal arm that is located near the top of the transmission and is connected to the clutch pedal.
5. Loosen the jam nut on the clutch cable.
- This is the nut that is located at the end of the cable where it connects to the release arm.
6. Remove the old clutch cable.
- Use a 10mm wrench to remove the nut that secures the cable to the clutch release arm.
- Disconnect the cable from the clutch release arm by pushing the release arm down and lifting the cable off the arm.
7. Install the new clutch cable.
- Attach the new cable to the clutch release arm by pushing the release arm down and inserting the cable into the slot on the arm.
- Secure the cable to the clutch release arm with the nut that you removed earlier.
8. Tighten the jam nut on the clutch cable.
9. Adjust the clutch cable.
- Turn the adjuster nut at the end of the cable until the pedal feels firm and has about 1/2 inch of free play at the top of its travel.
10. Reattach the negative terminal to the battery.
11. Test the clutch cable.
- Start the engine and press the clutch pedal.
- The pedal should feel firm and engage smoothly.
- If the clutch does not engage smoothly, readjust the cable until it does.
12. Road test the car.
13. Verify the clutch operation
- Ensure the clutch pedal action is smooth and provides enough free play.
- Ensure there is no slipping when the clutch is engaged and check the clutch engagement point.
14. Fine tune the clutch cable adjustment if necessary.
