Oil change on 1980 Honda cm400e?

Tools and materials needed:

- New oil filter (Honda part number 15410-MJ9-013 or equivalent)

- New oil (SAE 10W-40 or 20W-50, depending on your climate)

- Oil drain pan

- Funnel

- Wrench

- Rags

- Safety glasses

Procedure:

1. Warm up the engine for a few minutes to circulate the oil.

2. Turn off the engine and let it cool down slightly.

3. Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain bolt on the bottom of the engine.

4. Loosen the oil drain bolt and let the oil drain completely into the pan.

5. Replace the oil drain bolt and tighten it securely.

6. Remove the old oil filter by turning it counterclockwise.

7. Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.

8. Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug.

9. Add new oil to the engine through the oil fill hole on top of the engine.

10. Check the oil level using the dipstick. The oil level should be between the "full" and "add" marks on the dipstick.

11. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.

12. Check for leaks around the oil drain bolt and oil filter.

13. Turn off the engine and let it cool down slightly.

14. Recheck the oil level and add more oil if necessary.

Tips:

- If you are changing the oil in a cold climate, you may want to use a lower viscosity oil, such as SAE 5W-30.

- If you are changing the oil in a hot climate, you may want to use a higher viscosity oil, such as SAE 20W-50.

- Be sure to use the correct oil filter for your motorcycle. Using the wrong oil filter can cause the engine to overheat.

- Don't overfill the engine with oil. Overfilling can cause the engine to overheat and damage the seals.

- Dispose of old oil and oil filters properly. Used oil can be recycled at most auto parts stores.
