- A set of feeler gauges
- An adjustable wrench
- A screwdriver
- A spark plug wrench
1. Remove the spark plug.
2. Remove the valve cover.
3. Locate the intake and exhaust valves. The intake valve is on the left side of the cylinder head, and the exhaust valve is on the right side.
4. Use a feeler gauge to measure the gap between the valve stem and the rocker arm. The gap should be between 0.006 and 0.008 inches (0.15 and 0.20 mm) for the intake valve and 0.010 and 0.012 inches (0.25 and 0.30 mm) for the exhaust valve.
5. If the gap is too small, use an adjustable wrench to turn the adjusting screw on the rocker arm until the gap is correct.
6. If the gap is too large, use a screwdriver to loosen the locknut on the adjusting screw and then turn the adjusting screw until the gap is correct. Tighten the locknut when the gap is correct.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 for the other valve.
8. Replace the valve cover and spark plug.
