What components are not part of the secondary an ignition system?

The secondary ignition system's primary function is to deliver a high-voltage spark to the spark plugs. Therefore, components that are *not* part of the secondary ignition system are those that deal with the lower voltage primary circuit and the generation of the initial electrical energy. This includes:

* Ignition Coil Primary Winding: This is part of the *primary* circuit.

* Ignition Switch: Controls the primary circuit.

* Ignition Control Module (or ECU): Provides the signal to energize the primary coil (in electronic ignition systems).

* Ballast Resistor (in some systems): Reduces current to the primary coil during cranking.

* Battery: The source of power for the entire system.

* Distributor (in distributor-type systems): While the distributor *houses* parts of the secondary system, its cam and points (or Hall effect sensor) are part of the primary circuit's timing mechanism.

Everything else in the path of high voltage from the coil secondary winding to the spark plug is considered part of the secondary ignition system.
