A Ford 460 gas engine uses a completely different transmission than a 7.3L IDI diesel. The 460's C6 transmission won't work with the 7.3 IDI. The 7.3 IDI in a 2WD one-ton Ford truck typically used a
C6 transmission, but it's a *different* C6 than the one behind a gasoline 460. The bellhousing pattern and internal components are different to handle the diesel's higher torque.
You cannot simply swap a C6 from a 460 to a 7.3 IDI. You need a C6 specifically designed for the 7.3 IDI. Finding a used one from a similar-year truck is your best bet. Parts stores might list it simply as a "C6" for your year and model, but don't assume it will be interchangeable. Always check the bellhousing pattern to ensure compatibility.
