* Visually inspect the engine: Look near the thermostat housing on the cylinder head for a sensor with one or two wires connected. This is the most likely location for the gauge sending unit. It's usually a smaller sensor than other components in that area.
* Consult a repair manual: A Haynes or Chilton manual specific to your vehicle year and engine will have a diagram showing the exact location of all sensors, including the temperature sending unit(s). This is the most reliable method.
* Check wiring diagrams: If you have access to a wiring diagram for your truck, it will show the location and what each sending unit does.
Don't rely solely on online images, as variations can exist between model years and even slight variations within a model year. A repair manual is the most accurate resource.
