Tools You'll Need:
* Jack and jack stands
* Socket wrench set (metric and standard, depending on your engine)
* Ratchet and extensions
* Oil pan gasket (new)
* New oil filter (while you're at it)
* New oil
* Drain pan
* Torque wrench
* Putty knife or scraper

Steps:
1. Drain the oil: Warm the engine slightly to thin the oil, then locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the oil pan. Place your drain pan underneath and carefully remove the plug. Let the oil drain completely.
2. Remove the oil filter: Locate the oil filter and use an oil filter wrench to remove it. Let the remaining oil drain out.
3. Remove the oil pan:
* Disconnect any components: This may include things like the oil pressure sender, the front differential case if it's close, or even some exhaust components (again, consult your repair manual).
* Remove the oil pan bolts: These are usually located around the perimeter of the pan. They can be tricky to access, and some may be hidden by the frame. Work systematically, taking note of bolt lengths and positions if necessary.
* Lower the oil pan: Carefully pry the oil pan away from the engine block. The old gasket will likely stick to either the pan or the block. Be patient and avoid damaging the engine block. A transmission jack can help support the weight of the pan if it's difficult to manage.
4. Clean the surfaces: Thoroughly clean the mating surfaces of the engine block and the oil pan, removing all traces of the old gasket. Use a scraper and solvent if needed.
5. Install the new gasket: Carefully install the new oil pan gasket onto the engine block, ensuring it's properly seated.
6. Install the oil pan: Carefully align the oil pan with the engine block and install the bolts. Do not overtighten! Use a torque wrench and consult your repair manual for the correct torque specifications.
7. Reconnect components: Reattach any components you disconnected earlier.
8. Install the new oil filter: Screw on the new oil filter, tightening it according to the manufacturer's instructions.
9. Add new oil: Add the correct amount and type of oil (consult your owner's manual).
10. Check for leaks: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, then check for any oil leaks around the oil pan and filter.
11. Check oil level: After running the engine, let it sit for a few minutes to allow the oil to settle, and then check and top off the oil level as needed.
Important Considerations:
* Accessibility: The process can be challenging due to limited access to the oil pan bolts. You might need to remove some other components to get a better angle.
* Gasket type: Make sure you get the correct oil pan gasket for your engine. There are different types available (cork, rubber, etc.).
* Torque specifications: Incorrect torque can lead to leaks or damage. Always use a torque wrench and follow the specifications in your repair manual.
