On a 2003 Ford Escape XLT (which uses a V6 engine), Cylinder 4 is located in the rear of the engine, on the passenger side.
To be precise, it's towards the back on the passenger side bank of cylinders. However, visual identification requires looking at the engine from the front of the vehicle.
