What is cylinder numbering order in a 1957 Chevy V8 283 block?

The 1957 Chevy 283 V8 uses a front-to-rear, passenger-side-to-driver-side numbering system. Therefore, the cylinders are numbered:

1-5-3-6-2-4-8-7

This means cylinder #1 is at the front of the engine on the passenger side. Then it goes to the rear on the passenger side, then across to the driver's side front, then the rear of the driver's side.
