The CKP provides the engine control module (ECM) with information about the crankshaft's position. If the CKP fails, the ECM won't know where the pistons are and won't be able to control ignition timing and fuel injection accurately. The engine won't run. However, the fuel pump might *still* try to operate (assuming the rest of the fuel pump circuit is functional), because its control circuit is independent.
In short: A faulty CKP will prevent the engine from running, but a non-working fuel pump can have many other causes. A non-running engine due to a faulty CKP *won't* necessarily mean the fuel pump is also at fault.
