Steps:

2. Locate the Resonator: The resonator is usually located in the exhaust system between the catalytic converter and the muffler. It's a cylindrical chamber often slightly smaller in diameter than the muffler.
3. Prepare for Removal: Spray penetrating oil on all the bolts connecting the resonator to the exhaust pipes. Allow it to sit for at least 15-20 minutes to work its way into the threads.
4. Disconnect the Resonator: Using the appropriate wrenches or sockets, carefully remove the bolts connecting the resonator to the exhaust pipes. These bolts can be very stubborn due to rust and heat cycles, so take your time and apply steady pressure. If a bolt breaks, you may need to drill it out.
5. Lower the Resonator: Once the bolts are removed, carefully lower the resonator. It may be slightly heavier than you expect.
6. Install the New Resonator: Carefully align the new resonator with the exhaust pipes and install the bolts. Tighten them securely, but don't over-tighten.
7. Reconnect Everything: Double-check all connections to ensure they are secure and properly aligned.
8. Lower the Vehicle: Carefully lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
9. Check for Leaks: Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check carefully for any exhaust leaks around the resonator connections. If you hear a hissing sound or smell exhaust fumes, you need to tighten the bolts or re-check the connections.
Important Considerations:
* Rust: On a car this old, rust is a significant factor. Expect to encounter stubborn bolts. Patience and penetrating oil are your friends.
* Exhaust System Hangers: Be careful not to damage the rubber hangers that support the exhaust system. Replace any that are damaged or broken.
