Fergal McGrath and Julian Warren achieved a new world record for fuel efficiency after driving a Honda Civic Tourer 1.6 i-DTEC for 25 days. They managed to cover 8 387 miles (distance of driving from the UK to Australia) across 24 EU countries – using just £459 of diesel! There were no apparent modifications to the car,  a standard model vehicle. After they had returned from their 25 day journey they were awarded the Guinness World Records title for “lowest fuel consumption – all 24 contiguous EU countries (all cars)” at Honda in Swindon, Wiltshire.
