2. Turn off the engine and let it cool down for a few minutes. This will help prevent burns.
3. Open the hood of your car.
4. Locate the transmission fluid dipstick. The dipstick for a 1992 Mazda Protege is usually located on the driver's side of the engine compartment, near the back of the engine. It is a long, thin stick with a yellow handle.
5. Pull the dipstick out of the transmission and wipe it clean with a rag.
6. Reinsert the dipstick into the transmission until it is fully seated.
7. Pull the dipstick out again and check the fluid level. The fluid level should be between the "Full" and "Add" marks on the dipstick.
8. If the fluid level is low, add manual transmission fluid to the transmission until the level reaches the "Full" mark.
9. Reinsert the dipstick and make sure that the fluid level is correct.
10. Close the hood of your car.
