Important: Be sure to disconnect the battery before starting this procedure.
1. Locate the fuel pump housing. The fuel pump housing is located under the vehicle, just in front of the rear wheels. It is a cylindrical metal canister with two fuel lines connected to it.
2. Remove the fuel lines. There are two fuel lines connected to the fuel pump housing. Disconnect the fuel lines by pressing the release button on the connector and pulling the connector off of the fuel line.
3. Remove the electrical connector. The electrical connector is connected to the top of the fuel pump housing. Disconnect the electrical connector by pulling it straight up.
4. Unbolt the fuel pump housing. The fuel pump housing is bolted to the frame of the vehicle with four bolts. Remove the four bolts using a wrench.
5. Remove the fuel pump housing. Once the bolts are removed, you can remove the fuel pump housing from the vehicle.
6. Remove the fuel pump. The fuel pump is located inside the fuel pump housing. To remove the fuel pump, pry the lock ring off of the fuel pump housing. Pry the lock ring up evenly so not to damage the seal
7. Remove the old fuel filter.
8. Replace the fuel filter. Insert the inlet side of the fuel filter into the sending unit and press down firmly until it clicks into place.
9. Install the new fuel pump. Place the new fuel pump into the fuel pump housing and secure it with the lock ring.
10. Reinstall the electrical connector. Push the electrical connector onto the top of the fuel pump housing until it clicks into place.
11. Reinstall the fuel lines. Insert the ends of the fuel lines into the connectors on the fuel pump housing and push them until they click into place.
12. Rebolt the fuel pump housing. Reinstall the four bolts that hold the fuel pump housing to the frame of the vehicle.
13. Reconnect the battery.
