- 10mm socket
- 13mm socket
- 15mm socket
- 1/2-inch breaker bar or ratchet with extension
- Oil drain pan
- funnel
- Transmission fluid (refer to owner's manual)
Procedure
Preparation
1. Park your car on a level surface and apply the parking brake.
2. Turn off the engine and open the hood.
3. Locate the drain plug on the bottom of the transmission pan. It's usually a 15mm bolt.
4. Remove the transmission pan bolts using a 10mm socket. Be careful not to lose any of the bolts.
5. Drain the transmission fluid into an oil drain pan.
6. Replace the transmission pan bolts.
Dismantling the Transmission
1. Disconnect the accelerator cable from the transmission.
2. Remove the following components from the transmission:
- Shift linkage
- Starter
- Oxygen sensors
- Driveshaft
3. Remove the bolts holding the transmission to the engine.
4. Remove the transmission from the engine with a transmission jack.
Reinstallation
1. Position the transmission in place against the engine.
2. Install the transmission and mount it to the engine with the bolts.
3. Reinstall the components removed earlier (shift linkage, starter, oxygen sensors, driveshaft).
4. Connect the accelerator cable to the transmission.
5. Pour transmission fluid into the transmission using a funnel.
6. Start the engine and check the transmission fluid level. Add more fluid if necessary.
