* A pair of pliers
* A screwdriver
* A flashlight
* A wire brush
* A new dipstick
1. Locate the broken dipstick. It is usually located on the passenger side of the engine, near the oil filter.
2. If the broken dipstick is visible, use the pliers to grasp it and pull it out.
3. If the broken dipstick is not visible, you will need to use the screwdriver to pry off the oil cap.
4. Once the oil cap is removed, use the flashlight to look down into the oil fill tube. You should be able to see the broken dipstick.
5. Use the wire brush to clean the oil fill tube and the area around the broken dipstick.
6. Insert the new dipstick into the oil fill tube.
7. Push the new dipstick all the way in until it stops.
8. Replace the oil cap.
Here are some additional tips for removing a broken off dipstick from a Ford Econoline van engine:
* Be careful not to drop the broken dipstick into the engine. If you do, you will need to remove the oil pan to retrieve it.
* If the broken dipstick is stuck in the oil fill tube, you can try using a penetrating oil to loosen it.
* If you are unable to remove the broken dipstick yourself, you may need to take your vehicle to a mechanic.
