1. Park the Mustang on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Crawl under the car and locate the oil pan. It is a metal pan located under the engine.
3. Clean the area around the oil pan to remove any dirt or debris.
4. Place an oil drain pan under the oil pan to catch any oil that may spill.
5. Use a 1/2-inch wrench to loosen the oil drain plug located at the bottom of the oil pan. Allow the oil to drain completely into the drain pan.
6. Once the oil has drained, remove the oil pan bolts located around the perimeter of the pan. You may need to use a breaker bar or impact wrench to loosen the bolts.
7. Once all the bolts are removed, carefully lower the oil pan from the car. Be careful not to spill any remaining oil.
8. Clean the oil pan gasket surface on the engine block and the oil pan. Remove any old gasket material.
9. Apply a thin bead of new gasket material to the oil pan gasket surface on the engine block.
10. Carefully position the oil pan in place and reinstall the oil pan bolts. Tighten the bolts in a criss-cross pattern to evenly distribute the pressure.
11. Reinstall the oil drain plug.
12. Add new oil to the engine as specified in the owner's manual.
13. Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Check for any leaks.
Once you have completed these steps, the oil pan on your 1966 Ford Mustang will be successfully removed.
