1. Gather your materials.
- New oil filter (check your owner's manual for the correct size)
- New oil (check your owner's manual for the correct type and amount)
- Oil drain pan
- Funnel
- Wrench
- Rags
- Gloves
- Safety glasses
2. Prepare your car.
- Park your car on a level surface.
- Turn off the engine and allow it to cool down.
- Engage the parking brake.
- If you can't crawl under your car, you will need to raise it either with ramps and a chock or a jack and jack stands. Never crawl under a car that is supported only by a jack.
-Locate the oil drain plug. It is usually located on the bottom of the oil pan.
3. Drain the old oil.
- Place the oil drain pan under the oil drain plug.
- Use the wrench to loosen the oil drain plug.
- Allow the old oil to drain completely.
- Replace the oil drain plug.
4. Replace the oil filter.
- Locate the oil filter. It is usually located near the top of the engine.
- Use the wrench to loosen the oil filter.
- Remove the old oil filter.
- Apply a thin coat of new oil to the gasket of the new oil filter.
- Screw on the new oil filter until it is snug.
5. Add new oil.
- Use the funnel to add new oil to the engine.
- Add the amount of oil specified in your owner's manual.
- Check the oil level using the dipstick.
-Add more oil if necessary.
- Check for leaks.
6.Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes.
7. Check the oil level again.
-If necessary add more oil.
