- Spark plug socket wrench
- Ratchet
- Spark plug gap tool
- New spark plugs (NGK BKR5E-11 or equivalent)
Instructions:
Note: Before you begin, make sure that the engine is completely cooled down and that you are working in a well-ventilated area.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent any electrical accidents.
2. Locate the spark plugs. They are located on the top of the engine, under the ignition coils.
3. Remove the ignition coils. Each ignition coil is held in place by a single 10mm bolt. Disconnect the electrical connector on top of each ignition coil before you remove it.
4. Use the spark plug socket wrench to remove the old spark plugs. Be careful not to drop the spark plugs into the engine!
5. Gap the new spark plugs. The spark plug gap should be 0.044 inches (1.1mm). You can use a spark plug gap tool to check the gap.
6. Install the new spark plugs. Hand-tighten the spark plugs until they are snug, then use the spark plug wrench to tighten them an additional 1/4 turn.
7. Reinstall the ignition coils. Connect the electrical connectors to the ignition coils, then tighten the 10mm bolts that hold them in place.
8. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
That's it! You have successfully changed the spark plugs on your Mitsubishi Eclipse GT.
