1. Shut off the engine and let it cool down.
2. Gather your tools and supplies. You will need:
- New fuel filters
- A fuel filter wrench
- A funnel
- Clean rags
- Gloves
3. Locate the fuel filters. On the 2004 Ford Excursion, the fuel filters are located on the passenger side of the engine. There are two fuel filters: a primary filter and a secondary filter.
4. Place a funnel under the primary fuel filter and loosen the filter drain plug. Allow the fuel to drain into the funnel.
5. Once the fuel has drained, remove the primary fuel filter. Use a fuel filter wrench to loosen the filter and then unscrew it by hand.
6. Inspect the old filter for dirt and debris. Replace it with a new filter.
7. Hand-tighten the new filter until it is snug. Do not over-tighten the filter.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 for the secondary fuel filter.
9. Start the engine and check for leaks. If there are no leaks, you have successfully changed the fuel filters on your 2004 Ford Excursion 6.0 diesel.
