Identify the spark plug wires: The spark plug wires are located on the top of the engine. They are typically black or dark blue.
Remove the spark plug wires: To remove a spark plug wire, grasp the wire boot and pull it straight up off of the spark plug.
Locate the spark plugs: The spark plugs are located at the end of the spark plug wires. They are usually silver or black.
Remove the spark plugs: To remove a spark plug, use a spark plug wrench to turn the spark plug counterclockwise until it is loose. Be careful not to drop the spark plug into the engine.
Inspect the spark plugs: Once the spark plugs are removed, inspect them for wear and damage. The electrodes should be clean and free of deposits. If the electrodes are worn or damaged, the spark plugs should be replaced.
Install the new spark plugs: If the spark plugs need to be replaced, install the new spark plugs in the reverse order of removal. Be sure to tighten the spark plugs until they are snug.
Reconnect the spark plug wires: Reconnect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs by pushing the wire boots down onto the spark plugs. Be sure to connect the spark plug wires in the correct order.
