Step-by-Step Guide:
1. Safety First:
- Ensure the engine is cool to the touch and the vehicle is parked in a safe, well-ventilated area. Turn off the engine and engage the parking brake.
2. Locate Spark Plugs:
- The spark plugs are located on the top of the engine. Depending on your engine type, there might be a plastic cover over the spark plugs that needs to be removed first.
3. Remove the Ignition Coils:
- Disconnect the electrical connectors on top of each ignition coil.
- Use the ratchet with an extension (if necessary) to loosen and remove the bolts that hold the ignition coils in place.
- Lift off the ignition coils and place them aside carefully.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs:
- Using the spark plug socket wrench, loosen and remove the old spark plugs.
- Be careful not to drop the old spark plugs into the engine.
5. Check and Gap New Spark Plugs:
- Inspect the old spark plugs for signs of wear or damage.
- Gap the new spark plugs to the specified gap as per your vehicle's specifications (refer to your owner's manual). Use a spark plug gap gauge to adjust the gap if needed.
6. Install New Spark Plugs:
- Carefully insert the new spark plugs into their respective holes.
- Hand-tighten the new spark plugs until snug to prevent cross-threading.
7. Reinstall Ignition Coils:
- Place the ignition coils back into their positions and secure them with the bolts you removed earlier.
- Reconnect the electrical connectors on top of each ignition coil.
8. Replace Engine Cover (if applicable):
- If you removed a plastic engine cover, reinstall it now.
9. Start the Engine:
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes to allow the new spark plugs to settle in. Listen for any unusual noises or check for any warning lights on the dashboard.
10. Test Drive:
- Take the car for a short test drive to ensure smooth engine performance.
