1. Locate the serpentine belt tensioner. It is usually located near the top of the engine, near the front. It will have a pulley with a spring-loaded arm that presses against the belt.
2. Use a wrench to turn the tensioner pulley counterclockwise. This will loosen the tension on the belt.
3. Slide the belt off of the tensioner pulley and wrap it around the other pulleys in the engine compartment. Make sure that the belt is routed correctly, according to the diagram in your owner's manual.
4. Slide the belt back onto the tensioner pulley.
5. Use the wrench to turn the tensioner pulley clockwise until the belt is tight. The belt should be tight, but not too tight. You should be able to twist it about 1/4 of an inch (6mm) with your thumb and forefinger.
6. Start the engine and check the belt tension. If the belt is slipping, you may need to tighten it a bit more.
