Petrol catches fire more quickly than diesel. This is because petrol has a lower flash point than diesel. The flash point of a fuel is the temperature at which it gives off enough vapour to ignite. The lower the flash point, the more flammable the fuel.
Petrol has a flash point of around -43°C, while diesel has a flash point of around 55°C. This means that petrol can catch fire at a much lower temperature than diesel, making it more dangerous to handle.
