- A flathead screwdriver
- A Phillips head screwdriver
- A 10mm wrench
- A fuel line disconnect tool
- A pair of pliers
- A funnel
- A clean container for the fuel
Step 1: Remove the fuel filler cap
Open the fuel filler door and remove the fuel filler cap.
Step 2: Disconnect the fuel line
Locate the fuel line that is connected to the fuel tank. Use the fuel line disconnect tool to disconnect the fuel line from the tank. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
Step 3: Remove the fuel tank straps
Locate the two fuel tank straps that are holding the fuel tank in place. Use the 10mm wrench to loosen the bolts that hold the straps in place. Once the bolts are loose, remove the straps from the fuel tank.
Step 4: Remove the fuel tank
Gently lift the fuel tank out of the vehicle. Be careful not to spill any fuel.
Step 5: Drain the fuel tank
If there is still fuel in the fuel tank, you will need to drain it before you can remove the tank. To drain the fuel tank, place a clean container under the fuel tank and open the fuel tank drain plug. Allow the fuel to drain into the container.
Step 6: Remove the fuel tank sender unit
The fuel tank sender unit is located inside the fuel tank. To remove the fuel tank sender unit, use the flathead screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the sending unit in place. Once the screws are removed, lift the sending unit out of the fuel tank.
Step 7: Reinstall the fuel tank
Once you have removed the fuel tank sender unit, you can reinstall the fuel tank. To reinstall the fuel tank, reverse the steps that you took to remove the tank.
Step 8: Reconnect the fuel line
Reconnect the fuel line to the fuel tank. Use the fuel line disconnect tool to connect the fuel line to the tank.
Step 9: Replace the fuel tank straps
Replace the fuel tank straps that you removed in Step 3. Use the 10mm wrench to tighten the bolts that hold the straps in place.
Step 10: Replace the fuel filler cap
Replace the fuel filler cap that you removed in Step 1.
